I did not particularly enjoy browsing through this Writing Matters blog. The voice of the writer, to me, sounds like it is annoyed. In this article, she wrote to Clinque to complain. She was unhappy about the layout of the letter that they wrote back. They offered her a free $22 product. In my opinion, any consumer would be happy just to receive a free product, no matter the content of the letter.
I think that anything can sound bad if you read into too much. Not every line of text needs to be analyzed until there is nothing left. I do agree that perhaps they should have said that the free product was being included first, but that does not ruin the context of the entire letter.
I would not suggest Writing Matters as a good blog source.
